Instant Pot Philly Cheesesteak

- For Steak
2 pounds top sirloin steak
2 cups beef broth
1 large onion, sliced
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
- For Cheese Sauce
4 tbsp. butter, divided
2 tbsp. flour
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp dijon mustard, optional
1/4 tsp hot sauce, optional
3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
4 hoagie rolls, for serving
Directions
- For Steak
- Place steak into the freezer for 30 minutes to make it easier to slice.
- Preheat an instant pot to saute.
- Cut steak into thin strips. Season with garlic, salt, and pepper.
- Add tablespoons of butter to instant pot. Add steak, onion, and peppers and saute for 5 minutes; stirring occasionally.
- Turn off instant pot. Pour in beef broth and stir well; using a wooden spoon.
- Cover with a lid and set to sealing. Cook on manual/high for 6 minutes.
- Allow the pot to come to pressure naturally for 10 minutes before removing the lid.
- For Cheese Sauce
- Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- Sprinkle flour over butter, cook and stir for 1 minute.
- Slowly whisk in milk. Turn the heat to low and simmer for about 3 minutes until thick. Whisk in salt, pepper, dijon mustard, and hot sauce.
- Remove from heat and stir in cheese until melted.
- Remove steak from instant pot with a slotted spoon, discarding the broth.
- Serve steak mixture in hoagies topped with cheese sauce as desired. Enjoy!
